In-Year Admissions 2024-2025

In-Year Admissions 2024-2025

If you wish to apply for a place at our School that is not part of the normal admissions round i.e. not for September admission in Year 7, this is referred to as an In-Year admission. You may apply for In-Year admission at any time during the School year.

You can apply for In-Year admission if:

  • You are moving house and your child cannot continue at their current school
  • Your child is being educated at home and you want them to attend a mainstream school instead
  • Your child is already at school, but you want to move them to a different school

In-Year Application Process

To apply for an In-Year place at Bishop Wand School you will need to complete an In-Year application which is downloadable using the link at the bottom of this page, or a hard copy can be sent directly to you if you contact the School.

If your child is currently looked after by a local authority, their social worker should complete your local authority’s ‘Child in Care Application for In-Year Admission to School’ and submit this directly to your local authority’s Admissions department.

Referring to the Admissions Criteria for the current academic year, if you are applying under criteria 2a, 2b, 4, 5a, 6a, 6b or 7a, you will also need to complete a Supplementary Information Form corresponding to the current academic year, which is downloadable using the link at the bottom of this page, or a hard copy can be sent directly to you if you contact the School.

Completed In-Year applications made to Bishop Wand should be sent directly to the School, with the associated documents mentioned on the form, for the attention of the Admissions Officer.

On receipt of an application the School will write to you within 15 school days to inform you of the outcome.  If the School is able to offer a place to your child, a start date will be arranged as soon as possible but within a maximum of 10 school days following your acceptance of the place.

If the School has been unable to offer your child a place at the time of application you will be notified in writing of the reasons why, and your child’s name will be added to the waiting list for the remainder of the academic year in which the application was made.

Waiting Lists

Should a place become available whilst your child’s name is on an In-Year waiting list, your application will be ranked using our over-subscription criteria within our Admissions Criteria, alongside any other applicants on the waiting list at that time.   Should your application be the highest ranking against our criteria, an offer of a place will be made to you in writing.

Waiting lists will be dissolved on 31st August 2025 and you would need to re-apply for a place in the next academic year.

Right of Appeal

If your child does not receive the offer of a place at the School there is a right to appeal to the Independent Appeal Committee, details for which can be obtained from the School or the Surrey County Council Appeals Service.

Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the In-Year admission process at Bishop Wand, please contact the Admissions and Marketing Officer, Mrs Helen Jermy.
