Science Week: STEM Careers Panel

For British Science Week, Bishop Wand invited five people who worked in the STEM sector to talk about their jobs, their career journey and to give advice to students who are considering a career in science. The guests were:

  • David Murray  - Computer Scientist and Electrical Engineer (Computer Scientist)
  • Alessio Spampinato  - Engineer and Space Sciences at NPL (Engineer)
  • Maria Luigia Assirelli  - GoConstruct STEM and Healthcare Design (Architect)
  • William Lee - Biochemical Division at NPL (Physicist and Chemist)
  • Louise Hughes – Business Manager at Oxford Instruments (Biologist)

Around 70 students attended the event after-school on Thursday, 13th March 2025. There were a number of very interesting questions posed to the panel about why they chose their career, what impact their job has, opinions on University and apprenticeship courses as well as questions about specific aspects of the science of their jobs.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the guests who attended, and we hope to have more opportunities in the future to tell students about careers in science.
